Ever since I first heard of the @bcbikerace it’s been on my race bucket list. I came close in 2017 to registering, until I remembered being 5 months PO from hip surgery wasn’t the best prep, so I put it off until 2019. Thanks to @maxxisbike my dreams of this race have become a reality!!! Next month I will line up for my first BCBR and I’m ecstatic! Last week I asked for a big prep week to mimic the race week, and today was day 1.

Last Fall I ditched my previous GPS unit to try the ELEMNT and instantly fell 🥰 with the unit, and knew I wanted to work with the company. Everything is set up via the app on your phone and takes less than 5 minutes to personalize. The app is amazing for post ride and race data geek out sessions, plus I use the fitness app for all my gym workouts too!

Workout Wednesday = modified.
The good news is, the radiologist who read my X-ray first wasn’t the brightest and my coccyx is NOT broken, but I’m still quite sore and taking the week off the bike and any serious exercise to let my body recover from the crash.
Through injury I’ve learned it’s good to keep moving for blood flow, but work within your capabilities and don’t push something you can’t tolerate.
Today included a flat 2 mile walk along the water + some simple PT exercises that don’t bother (too much) the sacrum, coccyx, or glute, here is a glimpse at today. Are these going to make me strong? Nope, but they’re going to keep those little muscles active, which is all I can ask for right now.
Exercise is the key to life. Don’t let injury stop you from moving, just learn what you can and cannot do while you’re recovering.

I don’t really have words to describe how much my heart aches. After whiskey 50 I put my head down and worked hard to be ready for Grand Junction. I felt strong physically and technically and with a blink of an eye, it was all over.
Just after starting into Butterknife I clipped my bars on a VERY strong shrubby tree (strong trees in The PNW have their branches up high 🤣), it sent me flying and landing on my back on a pile of rocks. Being the racer I am, I jumped up, didn’t take time to ASSess, and continued on. I was in pain, but thought it might go away. 5 minutes later it was clear something was not right, every bump, every pedal stroke hurt in a stabbing kind of way, it literally felt like I broke my butt. I then limped, cried, slowly pedaled, and walked my way to the end of the trail and called it a day.
Turns out I broke my coccyx, and I’m very sad. I’ll get a second opinion this week once I get home, but here I am, injured...again. Kind of feels like once you get one, they just keep flowing. Hoping this is just one minor set back in the grand scheme of things, because I still have goals to accomplish this summer 😉

Workout Wednesday! Should really be stretchy Saturday, but people have asked about some hip stretches.
This is a handful of my favorite near daily hip stretches. Having had a hip surgery on each side, these suckers like mobility. Along with my daily stretching, I do lots of strength and also stability exercises. I’m also a big fan of yoga, which is where this first one came from (I leave my ego at the door and modify for my body as needed). None of these should cause pain, maybe slight discomfort, but no pain. If they do, leave your ago at the door and go get checked out.

Anyone else out there love thrashing themselves in the woods on their MTB? There’s something so satisfying about climbing as much as I can, and letting it open up on the descents, especially when it’s 75 degrees and sunny☀️! Makes me crave summer even more.

Some people have basement gyms, some people have garage gyms. On those days when I don’t feel like driving to the gym, I make my teeny tiny house my gym, and get a little crafty with some 🔆coffee table lateral step downs and 🔆 couch decline lunges.
Just a glimpse into my at home strength.
On the days I want to get really 💪🏼💪🏼, I go to the gym for the heavier stuff, because I love being strong.

Judging by the look on my face, I think this is the part of Whiskey where I ran out of water. I’m lucky to have found @bigairchris at feed 3 to revive me, because not everyone is lucky enough to have access to clean, fresh water.
